Annotated checklist of the Coccinelloidea (partim) (Alexiidae, Bothrideridae, Cerylonidae, Endomychidae, Latridiidae, Teredidae) and Cucujoidea (partim) (Cucujidae, Erotylidae, Laemophloeidae, Monotomidae, Phloeostichidae, Silvanidae, Sphindidae) of Switzerland (Coleoptera)
Abstract
On the basis of more than 53,000 occurrences obtained from specimens held in museum and private collections, as well as from literature data, we present an updated checklist of the Swiss species of several families belonging to the superfamily Coccinelloidea (Alexiidae, Bothrideridae, Cerylonidae, Endomychidae, Latridiidae, Teredidae) and the superfamily Cucujoidea (Cucujidae, Erotylidae, Laemophloeidae, Monotomidae, Phloeostichidae, Silvanidae, Sphindidae). In total, 183 species are retained as part of the Swiss fauna, while 18 species, which were recorded from Switzerland in the past, are excluded from this list because of insufficient documentation, misidentified material, or isolated introductions of nonindigenous species. Fourteen species are recorded for the first time in Switzerland: Triplax collaris (Schaller, 1783), Triplax elongata Lacordaire, 1842 (both Erotylidae), Cryptolestes corticinus (Erichson, 1846) (Laemophloeidae), Corticaria alleni C. Johnson, 1974, Corticaria interstitialis Mannerheim, 1844, Corticaria orbicollis (Mannerheim, 1853), Corticarina cavicollis (Mannerheim, 1844), Latridius brevicollis (C. G. Thomson, 1868), Melanophthalma algirina Motschulsky, 1866, Melanophthalma parvicollis (Mannerheim, 1844), Melanophthalma rhenana Rücker & Johnson, 2007 (all Latridiidae), Rhizophagus oblongicollis Blatch & Horner, 1892 (Monotomidae), Psammoecus trimaculatus Motschulsky, 1858 (Silvanidae), and Teredus opacus Habelmann, 1854 (Teredidae). This work represents a further step toward a comprehensive understanding of the entire Swiss beetle fauna.
