Abstract
The family Prostomidae Thomson, 1859 has experienced numerous taxonomic reclassifications, leading to considerable confusion in authorship. To rectify this, we clarify the history of Prostomidae, provide a full taxonomic checklist with nomenclatural history, and give updated distributions for all extant and fossil taxa.
