The Dasytes Paykull, 1799 and Enodius Laporte de Castelnau, 1838 of the Iberian Peninsula and Balearic Islands (Coleoptera: Melyridae: Dasytinae)
Abstract
Based on an exhaustive literature review and the examination of abundant entomological material, this study presents the Dasytes and Enodius species inhabiting the Iberian Peninsula (Spain and Portugal) and the Balearic Islands. In this area, 25 species of Dasytes have been identified, 9 of which are strict Iberian or Iberian-Balearic endemics, and 4 species of Enodius, one of which is a strict Iberian endemic.
The subgenus Allotarsodasytes Pic, 1911 stat. rest. is restored, and Libertites nov. subgen. is proposed to include the species of the korbi group. The synonymy Dasytes nigropunctata Küster, 1849 = Dasytes nevadensis Pic, 1954 nov. syn. is proposed. A catalogue of the Iberian-Balearic species and their synonyms is provided, as well as a determination key for their identification.
For each species, a bibliography of its Iberian-Balearic records is included, as well as images of the male, female, median lobe in lateral and ventral views, internal sac, and 7th abdominal sternite. Finally, certain taxa whose taxonomic status is doubtful or whose presence in the study area requires clarification are discussed.
Distribution maps of the species that inhabit the Iberian Peninsula and Balearic Islands are included in Appendix 1. Appendix 2 contains images of types examined and not previously published.
