Slovak aquatic macroinvertebrates. checklist and catalogue of autecological notes

The Catalogue was prepared for needs of implementation of Water Framework Directives (WFD) 2000/60/EC in Slovak Republic. Its edition was supported by Ministry of Environment of Slovak Republic, Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute and by the European Commission within the Fifth Framework Programme through the research project Standardisation of River Classifications - STAR (EVK1-CT 2001-00089).

This catalogue represents a checklist of aquatic organisms of Slovakia and a comprehensive data source of their ecological information. The publication is addressed to be a practical tool for specialised scientists and applied technicians. It is directed toward an audience that, in addition to biologists and limnologists, should include practitioners of water conservation, management and protection. It consists of introduction and three chapters.

Although the large number of authoritative contributors the catalogue is not complete and without mistakes. We will be grateful for the comments and collaboration of all colleagues. Ecological information is arranged within a ten point ranking scheme. Catalogue also includes information about the distribution of each species within Slovak river basins and a comprehensive list of publications concerning the each taxonomic group.
