Updated checklist of Slovakian leaf-beetles (Coleoptera: Orsodacnidae, Megalopodidae, Chrysomelidae), with comments on the occurrence of some species

Abstract

An updated check-list of Slovakian leaf-beetles is presented. Altogether two species of Orsodacnidae, three species of Megalopodidae, and 567 species of Chrysomelidae are confirmed in Slovakia. The occurrence of further 23 species/subspecies is listed as doubtful in Slovakia. The following species or subspecies: Labidostomis axillaris (Lacordaire, 1848), Cryptocephalus aureolus Suffrian, 1847, C. distinguendus Schneider, 1792, C. variegatus Fabricius, 1782, Prasocuris hannoveriana (Fabricius, 1775), Chrysolina asclepiadis bohemica (Müller, 1948), Oreina alpestris bannatica (Suffrian, 1851), Euluperus xanthopus xanthopus (Duftschmid, 1825), Galeruca interrupta (Illiger, 1802), G. jucunda (Faldermann, 1837), Luperus saxonicus (Gmelin, 1790), Apteropeda orbiculata (Marsham, 1802), and A. splendida Allard, 1860 are verified as occurring in Slovakia.

The following Chrysomelidae species or subspecies are excluded from the fauna of Slovakia based on absence of any voucher specimens, or reexamination of relevant material or known distributional area: Bruchidius astragali (Boheman, 1829), Labidostomis lucida (Germar, 1823), Smaragdina diversipes (Letzner, 1840), Cryptocephalus macellus Suffrian, 1860, C. marginellus Olivier, 1792, C. trimaculatus Rossi, 1790, Pachybrachis flexuosus Weise, 1882, P. hippophaes Suffrian, 1848, P. pallidulus Suffrian, 1851, Floricola ulema (Germar, 1813), Gonioctena holdhausi (Leeder, 1950), G. kaufmanni (Miller, 1881), Chrysolina salviae salviae (C. R. Sahlberg, 1823), Ch. fuliginosa galii (Weise, 1884), Ch. cerealis cerealis (Linnaeus, 1767), Ch. purpurascens crassimargo (Germar, 1824), Oreina plagiata pennina (Binaghi, 1938), Sclerophaedon orbicularis (Suffrian, 1851), Galerucella grisescens (Joannis, 1865), Longitarsus aeruginosus aeruginosus (Foudras, 1860), Neocrepidodera cyanipennis (Kutschera, 1860), N. puncticollis (Reitter, 1879), Phyllotreta erysimi erysimi Weise, 1900, Psylliodes fusiformis (Illiger, 1807), and P. pyritosa Kutschera, 1864.

Diagnostic characters are provided for Labidostomis axillaris (Lacordaire, 1848), L. lucida (Germar, 1823), Cryptocephalus sericeus (Linnaeus, 1758) species-group, European species of Sclerophaedon Weise, 1882, Luperus saxonicus (Gmelin, 1790), and L. xanthopoda (Schrank, 1781). Some Chrysomelidae records published from Slovakia are corrected.
