The Dascillidae are a small, taxonomically relatively ancient family of beetles within the infraorder Elateriformia, most commonly classified within the superfamily Dascilloidea. Worldwide, the family comprises around 100 extant species in 11 genera, with a centre of distribution in Asia but a range extending across all zoogeographical regions. Adults are soft, elongated, densely hairy beetles, often found on vegetation and flowers, where they feed on pollen or other plant parts. The larvae live in the soil or in decaying organic matter and feed mainly on roots or detritus, thereby contributing to the nutrient cycle in the soil environment. Although they are not economically significant species, they are an important component of the biodiversity of meadows and forest edges, particularly at higher altitudes and in the foothills.
