The family Orsodacnidae is a small family of beetles in the superfamily Chrysomeloidea. It was formerly often classified as a subfamily of the Chrysomelidae, from which it differs primarily in larval morphology. Most species are small (4 - 8 mm) with a usually elongated and shiny body that varies in colour (from blue-black to yellow-brown), often with fine hairs. The colouration is highly variable, and individuals with different coloured elytra (e.g. yellow) and protonum (e.g. black) are often found. The front of the head (frons) is without a distinct dimple, the eyes protrude. Antennae are 11-jointed. Legs have 4 links (4-4-4), with the fourth link being small and often hidden in the third link. Adults are phytophagous (herbivorous), found primarily on flowers, where they eat pollen and nibble petals. They are mainly found on rose-bearing woody plants (Rosaceae) such as cherry, hawthorn and cranesbill. Larvae probably feed on plant roots, but detailed knowledge is limited.
